| "But it was Ivashchenko who stole the show with his most beautiful, distinctive deep tone and very flexible range, especially in the lower register." - MusicalCriticism.com, November 2007 He was highly acclaimed by public and press alike when presenting his first Philippe in the original French version of Don Carlos in Darmstadt as well as for his appearance as Kaspar in Der Freischütz at the Baden-Baden Festival under Thomas Hengelbrock. Despite his young age, the Russian bass won great acclaim for his impressive portrayal of Gurnemanz in Parsifal and for Méphistophélès in Gounod's Faust. Mr. Ivashchenko is a graduate of the Glinka Conservatory in Novosibirsk. After moving to Germany, he completed his studies at the Music High School of Karlsruhe. From 2000 till 2004 Dimitry Ivashchenko was a member of the ensemble of the theatre in Augsburg, Germany, where he sang roles like Gremin in Evgeni Onegin and the title role in Don Quichotte by Massenet. Further appearances included Sarastro at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Osmin at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow and at the Teatro Gayarre de Pamplona (Spain), whereto he returned as Sir Giorgio in I Puritani by Bellini. He also performed Gremin in Evgeni Onegin at the State Theatre of Karlsruhe, Edward Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Stravinsky's Renard, Obouhow's Le troisième et dernier Testament in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, excerpts from Boito's Mefistofele in Bilabao, Ludwig VI in Weber´s Euryanthe at the Théatre du Capitole de Toulouse, Mephisto, Böser Geist & Pater Profundus in Schumann's Faust-Szenen at La Scala in Milan, Janaceck's Glagolitic Mass with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Pierre Boulez at the Musikverein in Vienna, Commendatore in Don Giovanni and Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette at the Salzburg Summer Festival 2010, Pogner in a new production of Die Meistersinger at the Komische Oper Berlin, Verdi's Requiem in Berlin and Zurich, Vodnik in Rusalka at the Komische Oper Berlin, Titurel in Parsifal with the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Marek Janowski at the Philharmonie Berlin as well as Banco in Macbeth in Lille. Among his future engagements: Hunding in a concert version of Walküre 1st act at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Bruckner's Te Deum with the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, a scenic version of Verdi's Requiem in Cologne, Vodnik in Rusalka in Vienna, an Aids Gala in Bonn, Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the Opéra de Paris/Bastille and at the Munich State Opera, Sarastro in a new production of Zauberflöte at theTheater an der Wien, Schostakovitch's 14th Symphony with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva, Pogner at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as well as Gurnemanz in Parsifal in Santiago de Chile. At the Komische Oper Berlin, Dimitry Ivashchenko will be performing roles such as Sarastro, Colline in La Bohème, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Veit Poger in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Vodník in Rusalka, Ariodate in Xerxes and Escamillo in Carmen. |
